Rev. Jennifer Thompson
Dublin First Methodist Church
What are your experiences and areas of service that you believe will be valuable in your role as a General Conference delegate?
I was called to follow Christ and called into ministry at the age of 11. I was baptized and confirmed as a child. I have been a Diaconal minister, a commissioned missionary, and an ordained Deacon. I am now an ordained Elder in the GMC. My entire spiritual journey has been shaped by orthodox Wesleyan theology.
I have been in ministry for 39 years - in educational settings, in the local church, in a conference office, and cross-culturally. I have served in 9 different countries in Africa, Europe, and Latin America.
I am passionate about Jesus. As a delegate to General Conference, I will bring that passion - plus much hope, excitement, and experience - to the table as we make decisions affecting the future of the GMC.
My recent roles in church leadership include:
Charter Member of the Wesleyan Covenant Association
Founding member of the South Georgia chapter of the WCA
Secretary of the Executive Leadership Team for the South Georgia WCA
Delegate to two of the international Legislative Sessions of the WCA
Coordinator and speaker for the regional meetings of traditional Methodists in South Georgia
Member of the Connectional Organizational Legislative Committee at the 2024 GMC General Conference in Costa Rica
Describe why you believe that God has potentially called you to serve as a General Conference delegate.
I was honored to be elected as a clergy delegate to the first General Conference of the GMC Costa Rica in 2024. I served on the Connectional Organization Legislative Committee. In committee meetings and in general sessions, I experienced first-hand the move of the Holy Spirit in our new denomination. With His guidance, we were able to accomplish much in the formation of the GMC, but there is more to do! It would be a blessing to be elected as a delegate to General Conference in 2026 in order to continue the work we began in 2024.
My global perspective has given me a deep love for the world and the international church. My experience in ministry outside of the U.S. is part of who I am as a Christ-follower and as a pastor. I want the GMC to represent the church in the whole world.
I also love those who serve God through the GMC in South Georgia! We are family, and we stand on a long history of Methodism which began on South Georgia soil.
I am committed to see the GMC thrive as we labor together to fulfill God’s mission. I believe that we are called to be a fresh, biblically grounded, revelation and expression of God’s love for His world. I want to be a part of making sure we are rooted in truth and bear fruit for His glory. It would be my privilege to once again represent the clergy of South Georgia at General Conference.
