Rev. Rich Wardwell
Park Avenue Church
What are your experiences and areas of service that you believe will be valuable in your role as a General Conference delegate?
After a thirty-year career in the tech industry, I entered full-time vocational ministry five years ago—years that have proven to be among the most meaningful of my life. I’ve had the privilege of serving in both Senior and Executive Pastor roles, working closely with fellow Methodist leaders in South Georgia during the transition to the Global Methodist Church. From the earliest days of the South Georgia Annual Conference, I’ve been involved in its formation and development, drawing on both my business background and my theological training at Asbury Seminary.
As the SGAGMC’s first Executive Officer, I helped manage day-to-day operations of the new conference, supported by the Holy Spirit and a deep sense of calling. In 2023, I was ordained as an Elder in the GMC during the first South Georgia Annual Conference and more recently appointed to Park Avenue Church in Valdosta. Elected as an alternate delegate to the 2024 General Conference in Costa Rica, I was honored to serve as a full delegate during its final sessions. I am passionate about the future of the GMC in South Georgia and look forward to bringing my gifts to South Africa in 2026.
Describe why you believe that God has potentially called you to serve as a General Conference delegate.
From my earliest days in the United Methodist Church as a Licensed Local Pastor to representing South Georgia at the Wesleyan Covenant Association gathering in Tulsa, and later as a delegate to the Global Methodist Church’s General Conference in Costa Rica, I have carried a deep concern for the future of the Methodist movement and a strong conviction about the necessity of scriptural holiness. My professional background began in software engineering, which gradually grew into a passion for organizational leadership and team development. That passion, combined with a deep love for the Church and a clear call to vocational ministry, has shaped how I serve Christ and His people today.
I have a strong affinity for helping the body of Christ faithfully live into God’s mission to reconcile all creation to Himself. Whether through pastoring, strategic planning, or administrative leadership, I find joy in using the gifts God has entrusted to me in service to the wider church. The legislative and organizational dimensions of the General Conference uniquely align with these gifts, allowing me to represent both clergy and laity of South Georgia effectively and prayerfully.
And yes—maybe unusually—I enjoy pursuing a deeper understanding of the Book of Doctrines and Discipline and hold a genuine appreciation for its guidance and thoughtful application within the life of the Church!
