Rev. Tony Crosby
First Methodist Church of Moultrie
What are your experiences and areas of service that you believe will be valuable in your role as a General Conference delegate?
I have served in multiple areas of leadership during my 21 years of pastoral tenure including many years on District Committees on Ordained Ministry as well as opportunities to plan and lead worship in multiple settings. I attended and was a reserve delegate for the South Georgia Conference of the UMC at the UMC General Conference in Charlotte, NC. In that experience, however heartbreaking, I gained practical experience in the work of a denominational body and the study process and collaborative work required in a delegation. Should I be chosen as a delegate to the 2026 GMC General Conference, I would look forward to an opportunity to be a part of shaping our new connection into a theology grounded in solid Wesleyan orthodoxy and a polity that balances life-giving connectionalism with local church empowerment.
Describe why you believe that God has potentially called you to serve as a General Conference delegate.
I believe I am a well-informed student of Methodist church polity. I enjoy engaging with the details of disciplinary language as that resource serves to define the church's mission and ministry. The Book of Doctrine and Discipline provides for our covenant life together in our Global Methodist Church connection and I am convinced I could be of use to carefully examine proposed legislation to ensure it preserves our Wesleyan heritage while offering new wineskins for the new movement God is doing among us.
On a personal note, I would welcome a redeeming experience to be present at the gathering of our worldwide connection to both personally experience and publicly give witness to the heart of our new Methodist family. I am sure any of our nominated pastors will represent us well, and I am prepared to give input into this work as a representative or as one represented. I was never called to be an independent pastor and I am thankful for this new connection. I will serve however I can.
