Disaster Relief Grants Available
Thanks to the incredible generosity of Methodists in South Georgia and around the world, we are blessed with funds to support churches affected by the natural disasters of 2024.
South Georgia Conference Disaster Relief Grant Process
Purpose
The Disaster Relief Grant is designed to assist local churches in the South Georgia Conference that have been impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Debbie. Funds may be used for:
Repairs to church buildings and property damaged by the storms.
Reimbursement for expenses related to church repairs or community disaster relief efforts.
Assistance to church members in need of disaster-related support.
Eligibility
To qualify for this grant, applicants must:
Be a local church within the South Georgia Conference of the Global Methodist Church.
Demonstrate storm-related damage or financial need resulting from Hurricanes Helene and Debbie.
Grant Categories
Church Property Repairs:
Eligible expenses include structural repairs, roof replacements, electrical or plumbing repairs, church clean up costs such as stump removal, and other necessary repairs due to storm damage.
Reimbursement for Storm-Related Expenses:
Reimbursement for funds previously spent on church repairs or community disaster relief (e.g., providing food, water, or temporary shelter).
Individual Assistance:
Assistance for church members facing financial hardship due to storm-related damage to homes, vehicles, or other essential property.
Assistance to local community individuals who were served through the local Global Methodist church.
Application Process
Submit a Request:
Requests must be completed using a document with all requested information emailed to info@sgagmc.org.
Include a detailed description of the need, estimated or actual expenses, and any supporting documentation (e.g., invoices, receipts, photographs).
Deadline for Submission:
Requests must be submitted by March 1st, 2025. Late applications will not be considered.
Review and Approval:
Requests will be reviewed by the South Georgia Conference Connectional Council Executive Team.
Grants will be awarded based on demonstrated need, alignment with grant criteria, and available funds.
Notification of Award:
Applicants can expect to be notified about the results of their request within 2 weeks of the grant request being received.
Distribution of Funds:
Approved funds will be disbursed directly to the church or designated payees as appropriate.
Post-Grant Requirements
Reporting:
Recipients must submit a brief report within two months after fund utilization, detailing how the funds were used. Include receipts or other documentation.
Accountability:
Funds must be used exclusively for the purposes outlined in the grant application. Misuse of funds may result in a requirement to return the grant.
